ROUND PENNING 101
Watch as Luke Brown from Reata Horsemanship teaches and demonstrates effective round penning at liberty. Round penning is the first step in the Reata Horsemanship training program and the very beginning stage of Liberty work!
When you apply sound principles of horsemanship, you develop a horse that is...
- Calm
- Trusting
- Safe
- Responsive
- Relaxed
- Ready to Go
This video will teach you the foundational principles of round penning at liberty. It is the beginning of an incredible relationship you are creating with your horse!
When with your horse, to have that relationship you've always dreamed of, there are 3 things to focus on:
- Relaxation - a horse that is relaxed is using the thinking side of his brain and will be less likely to get upset.
- Respect - respect goes both ways, and must be earned. Without respect, the relationship will not be healthy.
- Responsiveness - a responsive horse is one that is listening to you and doing what you ask. He or she must be constantly mentally and emotionally connected to you to be consistently responsive.
A good relationship with your horse consists of a few simple things:
- Trust
- Connection
- Empathy
- Competence
- Confidence
- Leadership
Effective time with your horse is key to establishing good communication, respect, and relaxation so that you feel...
Happy and Safe!

All The Tools You Need to Reconnect with Your Horse
Often, life gets in the way of spending time with our horses. When family and work obligations and all the chaos that we call life keeps us from spending time with our horses, what we love and cherish so much gets put on the back burner. And our horses suffer...
They sit around waiting for us to work with them, ride them, and enjoy time with them, and they become a little bit rusty, which can present itself in many ways.
- They get out of shape.
- They get frisky. Maybe they have a tendency to buck or be more spooky or less connected to us with time off.
They just don't seem...
- Connected to us
- Relaxed
- Respectful
- Responsive
They might be a little lazy, or they might turn into a dragon!!!
Whatever your issue, you have asked yourself these questions:
- What can I do to help my horse feel more relaxed and connected to me?
- Does my horse still like me?
- Is my horse ready to ride?
- Does my horse even want to be ridden?
- Will I be safe?
These are all legitimate questions and concerns. You are not alone! Many people feel this way after their horse has had some time off.
I understand your predicament, and that's why I created this short course called the Horse Refresher Course!
It's meant for YOU!

The Horse Refresher Course is your ticket to feeling...
